Kongoni Community Library, Resource, Recreation, and Empowerment Centre is registered under Akhonya Community Based Organization’s (A-CBO), a non-profit organization founded in 2015 and registered in 2016 under the Ministry of Labour, Social Security, and Services with certificate No. 35659.   Our objective is a collaboration with travel industry partners, organizations, and global citizens who are interested in supporting poverty relief through sustainable and social development programs to improve the quality of life to the vulnerable on a 3 pillar platform: Education, Health, and Sports.

The resource centre was established to meet the challenges the community in Kongoni, Likuyani Sub-county and the environs were going through.  We identified education as a key to unlocking this problem.  We realized that a community library would do the magic to provide access to the dearly needed resources to empower the community.  We are so thankful to our friends and partners who believed in us and offered to support us from an early stage.  We do not take it for granted.

When the library services picked up, we realized that we needed to create a completely viable reading environment supported with other recreation facilities (beautiful grounds, a conference room, and a restaurant with both modern and traditional kitchens) to empower the community more.  The idea to construct the hospitality section was timely.  This is to support the youth and the community at large through the creation of a conducive environment for training in culinary studies and other skills as well as offer employment opportunities.  The restaurant facilities are to cater to the library patrons through our feeding programs to the vulnerable youth as well as our visitors.

We are in the process of constructing accommodation facilities to support the volunteer staff who will be helping in the library.  We have identified some students who face so many challenges at home especially from their parents and we would like to accommodate them during the school holidays, to be doing voluntary services at the library while they engage in their studies.  The rooms are also to accommodate the facilitators and some of the team members coming for various functions at the centre.

Our beautiful grounds – Dream Gardens, offers an opportunity for our learners to take a break after spending some time reading.  It is also a perfect place for Team Building activities as we as other functions like wedding and cocktail events.
